Service levels
Gold
35mm originals are scanned at 2000dpi, larger sizes are scanned at 1000dpi. This
captures far more detail and is suitable for making a full page print on an inkjet
printer, especially if you need to crop or manipulate the image.
Pro
Our top level of service for the professional photographer. Images are scanned
at 4000dpi for 35mm and 2400dpi for larger sizes. This equates to a scan at over A3
size from a 35mm original, and A2 size from a medium format original.

What is DPI?
DPI stands for: Dots Per Inch (and is also know as PPI: Pixels Per Inch). Both refer to the number of dots or pixels in every square inch of an image. Scanning a small original at a high resolution allows one to reproduce it at a larger size. As a bitmap image is enlarged, the effective resolution is reduced.
How are the files saved on CD?
Your files can be saved with incremental numbers. You can request the header part of a file name on your order form.
What is the best size to order for viewing on a video CD?
The maximum resolution a Video CD can display is 720x480 pixels. Therefore an A4 scan at 72dpi would be the optimum size for viewing on a Video CD.
How do I send my slides or negatives to Pix Studio?
You can send your slides or negatives to us via Royal Mail. If your slides or negatives are one-offs or have sentimental value we do recommend that you use a recorded or special delivery service - always package your negatives in clear plastic sleeves and in a hard backed envelope and slides in a plastic container. Pix Studio cannot be held responsible for any damage or loss incurred whilst your images are in transit.
How will my slides or negatives and scanned images be returned to me?
Pix Studio will send your processed order and return your original slides or negatives back to you in padded envelope(s) via Royal Mail as a special delivery insured up to the sum of £500. (if this insurance sum is not sufficient please contact us for further options). Pix Studio cannot be held responsible for any damage or loss incurred whilst your images are in transit.
What steps will be taken to avoid damage to my images?
Your images will be handled with the utmost care at all times. We only use the highest quality equipment and never handle slides or negative without cotton gloves. When your images have been scanned we will return them to you via Royal Mail special delivery packaged in padded envelopes using any casing that was provided by the customer.
How long will it take to scan my images?
We aim to complete your order within 5 working days. If your order is more urgent, please feel free to contact us.
What about copyright?
Pix Studio assumes that the customer has secured full copyright permission for all images submitted for processing.
What is an image border?
The border is the slide mount or the unexposed area of a negative

What is dust and scratch removal?
Dust and scratch removal is an automated process to eliminate almost entirely any foreign objects that are on the original slide or negative. There is an extra fee of 50p per image. For an example of how well this process works see below. In our experience, our process removes 90% of unwanted marks.

Why should I have my images burnt to DVD?
If you choose to have your originals scanned at higher resolution, it makes sense to have your images burnt onto DVD, rather than having several CDs. Our CDs hold 650Mb, while our DVDs hold 4.6Gb. Also some DVD players will recognise the content as being images and will display them in a slideshow format on your TV.
How do I pay Pix Studio?
You can either pay using a credit or debit card using the WorldPay system,
or by cheque or postal order. Please make cheques payable
to Pix Studio for the full amount and include this with your order.
Please note that no processing can be started without full payment.
Are bulk discounts available?
Yes - bulk discounts are automatically calculated for orders of over 100 scans.
